Initiatives developed in Santarém (PA) and in the Extractive Reserve of Acre were presented in London as examples of sustainable models that combine conservation, income generation, and social inclusion.
On October 14 and 15, 2025, London hosted the Corporate Investments into Forestry & Biodiversity (CIFB 2025) — one of the world’s leading events dedicated to discussing the role of forests and biodiversity in the future of sustainable corporate investments. Organized by CE Events & Media, the conference brought together business leaders, investors, policymakers, and climate finance experts from across the globe.
The program addressed key themes such as the integrity of carbon and biodiversity markets, financing models for nature-based solutions (NBS), measurement metrics for environmental and social impact, and governance of partnerships with local communities. The event underscored that the advancement of nature-based investments depends directly on building models that align economic viability, environmental conservation, and social inclusion.
During the two-day discussions, Ecam, ReSeed and Sebrae represented Brazil at CIFB 2025, presenting to the international audience the experiences of carbon and biodiversity projects developed in Santarém (PA) and in the Acre Extractive Reserve. Both initiatives are carried out in partnership with smallholder farmers, traditional peoples, and local communities.
The presentations were part of the panels focused on community inclusion and corporate investments in nature, where the Brazilian delegation demonstrated how the projects have achieved tangible results in income generation, conservation, and environmental traceability — all aligned with the highest international standards of social and environmental integrity.
Impact models based on inclusion and traceability
The Social Carbon Project for Family Farming, developed jointly by Ecam, Sebrae, and ReSeed, was one of the highlights of the sessions. The initiative applies internationally recognized methodologies to generate carbon credits with added social value, connecting family farmers and traditional communities to the voluntary carbon market and to climate finance opportunities.
The experiences presented in London reinforced the leading role of small producers and extractivists in conserving Brazil’s forests. The model developed in the regions of Santarém and Acre was recognized as a scalable solution capable of combining environmental conservation, income generation, and local development within a single productive arrangement.
“What we showed the world is that investing in nature means investing in people. Each carbon credit represents a story of resilience and commitment to the territory. The role of institutions is to build bridges between those who conserve and those who seek to compensate or regenerate,” said Vasco Van Roosmalen, President of Ecam and CEO of ReSeed, during his participation in the panels.
Global trends and Brazilian leadership
The discussions at CIFB 2025 highlighted a clear global trend: biodiversity credits and integrated nature investments are gaining prominence in corporate decarbonization strategies. At the same time, there is growing demand for high-integrity projects — those with verifiable social and environmental impact metrics and transparent digital traceability.
In this context, the Brazilian model presented by Ecam, ReSeed and Sebrae was recognized for aligning technological innovation, scalability, productive inclusion, and participatory governance — aspects considered essential for the future of nature finance.
The event also reaffirmed Brazil’s strategic position in the global green economy, due to its biodiversity, forest scale, and long-standing experience in community-based projects. The initiatives carried out in Santarém and in the Acre Extractive Reserve demonstrate that it is possible to combine measurable environmental outcomes with long-lasting social benefits, serving as a reference for other countries seeking to implement nature-based projects with legitimacy and real impact.
