For 25 years, Ecam has been a link between socioeconomic development and environmental conservation, strengthening communities and promoting sustainable solutions. Our journey began with a group of researchers committed to mapping and preserving traditional territories. Today, we continue to drive significant changes in the Amazon, but also throughout Brazil.
Our Performance
Ecam works on several fronts, always combining human development with environmental conservation, including:
- Mapping and Territorial Management: Since its inception, Ecam has been a pioneer in collaborative mapping of traditional territories. We work side by side with indigenous and quilombola communities to enable sustainable management of their lands, promoting cultural and environmental preservation.
- Community Empowerment and Strengthening: We believe in the power of education and training. We offer training and workshops for community leaders, environmental agents and local managers, enabling them to autonomously manage their natural resources.
- Innovation and Technology: We use advanced technological tools such as Google Earth and the Open Data Kit (ODK) to monitor and manage protected areas. These technologies enable communities to effectively monitor and protect their territories.
- Economic Sustainability Projects: We develop projects that promote sustainable income generation, such as the Paiter Suruí Fund, which combats deforestation through the sale of carbon credits. These initiatives ensure the economic viability of communities while preserving the environment.
- Advocacy and Public Policy: We actively participate in the formulation of public policies that directly impact traditional communities. Our work was fundamental in the creation of the National Policy for Territorial and Environmental Management of Indigenous Lands (PNGATI), which protects natural resources and promotes their sustainable use by these peoples.
